The HD Projects

Family tribute project dedicated to the late drummer Dennis Davis, who played with David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, George Benson and many others.

Dennis Davis young son, Hikaru Davis interviews musicians and others who knew and worked with his late father. Nacho helped Hikaru create coherent videos from the interview material. 

Dennis Davis passed away on April 6th, 2016. The HD Projects is the initiative of Hikaru Davis, youngest child of the late drummer. Hikaru interviews some of the great musicians and producers who have worked with his late father, as well as Dennis's friends and family. Hikaru hopes to learn how and why his father was one of the greatest drummers, and hear inspiring stories of his father through this tribute project. To that end, Hikaru has interviewed Jazz artist Roy Ayers, producer Tony Visconti, musicians who collaborated with Dennis and Bowie including Carlos Alomar and George Murray, and many others. 

When I heard as a kid myself, the drumming on those ’75 – ‘80 Bowie records, I didn’t know I was listening to Dennis Davis. But I certainly knew that the drumming was something very special. Decades later, I have remained a huge fan of Dennis Davis playing. And so, working with Hikaru and his mum Chie Davis, on The HD Projects series, guiding and editing these videos has been my pleasure and my privilege.
